Marriage

"What scriptures do you turn to (if any) when determining your role in your marriage?"
For me that verse would have to be, Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself . Philippians 2:3
This has only recently become my "marriage verse." As a result of some recent life lessons and from the observation of marriages other than my own.
As I reflect back on 29 years -today! :) - I can see how many times selfishness and pride have been the rule rather than the exception in my life.
There are certain times when we have to go back to the basics. For me this is such a time!
Any area of our lives can be in jeopardy. If a particular areas seems out of balance it presents a risk of toppling. The more areas out of balance...the greater the risk is. Homeschool, work , family relationships, marriage, ministry, any or all areas of life are vulnerable.
Sometimes we just need to pull up short and evaluate the situation (honestly) to see if we are building on a firm foundation or just patching and covering up. Are we concerned about what things look like on the outside or what they truly are in the blinding light of God's truth?
With this verse as a guideline I had to ask myself " Am I allowing selfish ambition or conceit a place in my heart and my marriage or am I truly being a servant within my home?"
Many of my "works" didn't measure up. By God's standard I could easily see, I was not serving with a humble heart, nor was I esteeming others -particularly my husband as I should.
If we don't diligently follow the blueprint drawn out by the Master Builder our work will not be up to code. I life up to code cannot weather the droughts and storms that are sure to come.
Blessings,
Thankfulheart

Great verse for your marriage! Selfishness is behind just about every problem marriage can face. Thanks for linking up! I'm looking forward to hearing more about your journey!

Ugh, I just left a nice message and it got swallowed up somehow. Anyway, I love your choice of verses!!!!

Thanks for the comment on my blog. I think I am starting to get a little better. :)
